Califorange

Belt: thrifted
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters
Bag: Tignanello
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Rose Velvet

I love wearing orange, and I felt very “So Cal” in this shift dress today. After Jasen took these photos of me, we noticed that the loquat tree in our apartments’ communal area was filled with fruit. I haven’t tried any of the loquats yet, but Jasen ate a bunch of them last year and said they were really good. I feel like we can’t let these go to waste (no one else seems to be picking them), and I keep wondering if we could make a pie out of them or something.

On our way back to our apartment, we saw our neighbors’ cat Loki sleeping on a lounge chair. Loki is pretty old, but he plays with Zeus sometimes. He also makes a meow that sounds like he’s calling out “Joe” (our neighbor’s name) at the door when he wants to be let in! I’m not kidding; I’ve heard him several times, and he definitely sounds like he’s calling Joe’s name.

’60s Meets ’80s

Sweater: Mars Mercantile
Pants: Gap
Shoes: Naturalizer
Lipstick: MAC Lady Danger

I know I already wrote a post about these pants and how obsessed with them I am, but I just have to mention again that these are THE most amazing trousers I have ever owned. I feel like Ann Margaret in the “Got a Lot of Livin’ to Do” scene from Bye Bye Birdie in them (even though her pants are pink). I’ve also learned that ’80s sweaters with broad shoulders and boatnecks are great for balancing out my hips when I wear pants.

Venetian Blue

Sweater: Sally Jane Vintage on Etsy
Necklace: made by my sister
Skirt: thrifted Corey Lynn Calter
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Fire and Ice

Yesterday Jasen and I went to Venice Beach in L.A. so he could take some photographs for an article he’s working on. Unfortunately by the time we got there it was gray and misty even though it had been hot and sunny in Pasadena. We walked around anyway and took some photos, but it was pretty bleh. I wore this beachy/oceanic outfit since I like to be a dork and dress for my surroundings.

Oh, and by the way, can you believe someone gave away this Corey Lynn Calter skirt?? I found it at ACTS thrift store for $4. Definitely one of my best finds ever.

Bright Sunshiny Day

Sweater: My Lucky Penny Vintage on Etsy
Skirt: H&M from a swap with Natasha
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Lipstick: MAC Lady Danger

This outfit makes me happy, and not just because it’s light and bright. It’s because of where everything came from. The skirt is from a swap I had with my friend Natasha last summer, so it reminds me of her, and the shoes and lipstick were gifts from my friends Ani and Emily on my 30th birthday last September, so they make me think of them and my birthday party. And then I bought the sweater from a new Etsy shop with the sweetest seller. I was her first customer, and she sent me such a nice note and used super cute packaging with a new penny inside the mailer because her shop is named My Lucky Penny Vintage.

The weather really was bright and sunshiny today, so my outfit went along with it. It was so beautiful in L.A. and so hard to be inside an office. Whenever I drive to work I dream about just continuing all the way up the coast. I wish I could drive all the way to Vancouver, staying in various locations along the way, including the Olympia area in Washington where a lot of my relatives (who I haven’t seen in years) live.

Over the last couple of weeks, I've finally gotten around to photographing and listing more items in my Etsy shop! If you click any item above, you'll be taken to the listing. I have a few more tops and skirts to go, but I'm not sure when I'll have time to get them up in the shop, so I thought I'd just post an update with these items for now.

Roar

Headband: Urban Outfitters
Sweater: Forever 21
Jeans: thrifted
Shoes: Cherish from some store at Montclair Plaza
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Love That Red

More colored jeans! I’d been wanting some yellow ones for a long time, and my friend Natasha found these for me when we were thrift shopping several weeks ago. She’s like a human colored denim detector. We’ll go into a thrift store and split up, and in less than 10 minutes she’ll walk up to me with her arms full of all the colored jeans in the store. She owns several pairs herself that she’s found at Quality Thrift, Goodwill and ACTS.

I bought this sweater when I was visiting my sister in the Bay Area last month. As soon as I saw it, I knew I had to wear it with these jeans and my leopard headband because I’m crazy about this similar combination that Annebeth wore. I like how the orange and yellow are kind of leonine.

Anime Mod

Dress: Forever 21
Sweater: thrifted
Tights: Target
Shoes: thrifted
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Rose Velvet

I’ve been obsessed with short-sleeved sweaters lately. I’ve always loved them, but now I want them in all colors and lengths...peach, cream, pale yellow, royal blue, cropped, slouchy, at the hip. I recently bought three of them on Etsy and I have a whole bunch more on my favorites list. They’re perfect with skirts and over dresses (like this one) that I’ve been avoiding wearing to work because they’re sleeveless.

This dress is so old. It has the old scripty Forever 21 tag in it, and I rarely wear it because the skirt part is kind of faded, but this red sweater perked it right up. I feel sort of anime-ish in this outfit and also mod with the short skirt and square-toed ’60s shoes. Even though I usually avoid square toes, I was really attracted to these because of the cute white detail and the ’60s “Howard Fox” script inside. And I’m glad I decided to buy them because I wear them all the time.

Addicted to Pleats

Sweater: thrifted
Skirt: thrifted
Tights: Target
Shoes: thrifted
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Love That Red

I just noticed that I’ve been wearing pleated skirts all the time recently. But they are the best! I like how the texture of this one looks with the pointelle knit of the sweater I have on.

Today was one of those blah photo days, probably since I feel blah because of an approaching storm. It might sound crazy, but I get weather-triggered migraines. Does anyone else get them? Whenever a storm rolls in or the weather suddenly turns much hotter, I’ll get a migraine. It’s a good thing I live in Southern California where the weather doesn’t change that much. I don’t think I could function in the Midwest.

Miami Brights

Shirt: thrifted
Cardigan: Urban Outfitters
Jeans: bebe
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

Jasen said the colors of this outfit reminded him of Miami in the ’80s. I’ve been obsessed with these jeans and wearing them all the time lately, usually with a gray or black top. But I had today off work and decided to have some fun with a shirt in another bright color. However, I feel like maybe this shirt is a little too short to wear with such skintight jeans. I wish these were just a little thicker and less jegging-like. They are very comfortable, though.

This sweet kitty approached us while we were taking photos! We have a ridiculous number of cats in our apartment complex. I think there are, like, 30 of them among the three buildings. I’m not even exaggerating.

Stolen Colors

Shirt: thrifted
Sweater: H&M
Skirt: thrifted
Shoes: thrifted
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Love That Red

This outfit was inspired by an outfit that I saw one of my coworkers wear recently and by this outfit Amber wore on The Girly Bird. I had seen both of them in this color combination one after the other and just loved it. It also put my chambray shirt to good use. I can’t wear this shirt without a sweater over it because it gaps at the bust. Has anyone seen a nice, soft chambray shirt anywhere recently without pockets on the front? Because I really want to buy one that fits me correctly, but they all seem to have boob pockets (or just one boob pocket), and I just can’t rock shirts like that.
