Thrifted Thursday No. 37

Top: thrifted Talbots
Skirt: thrifted Dana Buchman
Shoes: thrifted vintage Howard Fox
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Certainly Red

I felt so '60s in this today, especially because these shoes actually are that old, I think. I kind of feel like I shouldn’t be wearing them because they're amazingly preserved for their age, but... oh well! They look good with a lot of outfits.

Can you believe this blouse is from Talbots? I love a good roll-neck (or whatever it's called) about as much as I love Peter Pan collar, and this type of neck is even harder to find on contemporary clothing.

Black, Brown, Navy?

Sweater: thrifted Muni Basic
Top: Forever 21
Skirt: thrifted Corey Lynn Calter
Belt: thrifted Axiom
Bag: Tignanello via eBay
Shoes: thrifted Jazzberry
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Fire and Ice

This weekend was a lot of fun and way too short, as usual. I wore this outfit to brunch for my friend Mary's birthday at Bottega Louie in downtown L.A. It's a pretty cool place. They have an amazing bakery area full of macarons and fancy pastries, and I felt like my slightly foofy outfit fit right in.

I'm proud that, aside from the purse, this outfit probably cost me less than $15 because the top was bought with a gift card and everything else came from my favorite thrift stores. And I was pleasantly surprised that these pieces all seemed to work together...apparently black, brown and navy polka dots can be friends.

Mary with her birthday dessert, the butterscotch budino with fleur de sel on top. I need to go back just to taste this again.

I had to try the melon juice many places serve melon juice? I think it would have been better if it were chilled.

This is one of the bakery counters. I held back and didn't buy macarons because I like the ones at Euro Pane in Pasadena and they're larger and less expensive there anyway.

Floral Day

Dress: Freebird via Buffalo Exchange
Shoes: Soda
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Certainly Red

These photos are kind of blurry because they were taken in low light. You know why? Because I was at my dad’s house playing Scrabble with my brother Trevor as the sun was setting and had to finish our very competitive game before getting my youngest brother, Jeremy, to take my photos in the front yard. Trevor won by a couple points, so we’ll have to have a rematch.

Anyway, this is what I wore on Father’s Day, which is why I was at my dad’s house. My brothers and I took him out to lunch, and then we went bowling. After that my dad wanted to watch the Miami vs. Oklahoma City NBA game, so Trevor and I broke out the Scrabble and some booze.

Even though the photos are blurry and my dress is wrinkled, I had to post these to show off this dress that I found at Buffalo Exchange in Santa Monica last week. My hunt for more dresses with sleeves was successful that day; I also found a more fitted floral dress with short ruched sleeves. Secondhand stores are the way to go!

Draped in the Shade

Top: Target
Skirt: vintage, from a swap with my friend Natasha
Shoes: thrifted Naturalizer
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Certainly Red

This weekend was hot, so I kept wanting to wear drapey things like this top I found at Target recently. It’s very comfortable, and I’m sure they still have it at Target right now. It comes in several prints, but I liked this one the best because of the color and the understated Southwesterness of it.

1 Skirt 4 Ways

I thought I’d do something different (for my blog) today and post a few older photos of ways I’ve styled the same skirt. If people like it, I’m thinking I might make it an ongoing type of post. I’ve always enjoyed other bloggers’ “remix” posts, even if it is an excuse to reuse old photos. Anyway, dug up from the past, here are four of my favorite ways I’ve worn my moss green pleated skirt.

Thrifted Thursday No. 3
This is one of my few outfits that ever made it into the Chictopia style gallery. I liked it a lot personally, and I got a compliment from an elderly woman at Target the day I wore it. I think this skirt goes well with a wide belt because the waistband is so tall. Also, I miss that purse! I found it at Quality Thrift and the oxblood color was perfect, but it was pretty cheap and fell apart from being used a lot.

Found in Nature
I hardly ever wear a belt over a cardigan, but I really loved this outfit because I think the blues and green are great together. This outfit was not popular on Chictopia. It made me feel good, though. I remember wearing it to run some errands in Old Town Pasadena.

I liked how the neutrals worked here with the red lips, leopard belt, red shoes combo. This outfit is all thrifted and reminds me that I need to break out that belt more often. In fact, hmmm, all my favorite outfits with this skirt so far have involved belts. Time to stop being lazy and work them into more outfits.

A Leaf Affair
This felt like a good fall outfit for Southern California...appropriate for hot weather but with turning leaf colors. Unfortunately, I think I may have sold that top at Crossroads. I need to go look in the last bag I took there and see if it’s gone because now I kind of regret taking it in. I never wore it much because it had a stiff zipper up the side that made it impossible to tuck in. It worked untucked with this skirt, though, for a drop-waist effect.

Bright Stripes

Top: Cotton On
Cardigan: Windsor
Shorts: thrifted vintage
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

No, I didn’t wear this to work today...these photos are left over from last weekend. I wore this to run errands and then do one of my favorite things: look for a birthday gift and wander around Pasadena on my own. Don’t get me wrong; I love hanging out with my husband and other family and friends. But I spend so much time working with people in the office and socializing on the weekend that I really, really appreciate when I can get a little time to myself to just walk around and browse H&M and Forever 21 (though I didn’t find anything I wanted) and drink a mango tea with boba from Noodle World without having to worry about making anyone else happy.

Get to the Ponte

Dress: Ganni from Anthropologie
Headband: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: thrifted Naturalizer

After avoiding purchasing any new clothing for about three months, I snapped at Anthropologie a couple weekends ago and bought this ponte knit dress. It was on sale. But not inexpensive. However, it’s a perfect royal blue color, it’s machine washable, it has a flattering fit-and-flare silhouette...and it has sleeves! Why is it so hard to find dresses with sleeves? Do those little scraps of fabric really add so much to the production cost of a garment? If I’m going to wear a dress, I don’t want to HAVE to pair it with a cardigan for the office, thanks. Not that I can’t bare my arms at work, but I don’t like to.

Anyway, I guess the name of this post is appropriate after all that rambling. Oh, and for once you might still be able to buy what I’m wearing on my blog in-store. Apparently Anthropologie still has the green and black versions of this dress left on their website, too, in size medium, although the product detail page for the dress doesn’t show up when you’re browsing their sale section. Weird.

Peplum It Up

Top: thrifted H&M
Skirt: H&M
Shoes: thrifted Jazzberry

This is one of my go-to work outfits. It’s pretty simple, but I like it a lot and wanted to finally take photos of it. I love the small peplum and where it hits and wish I could find more tops with the same proportions. H&M has some peplum tops right now, but they’re longer, with the skirt of the peplum starting lower down and extending over the hips more. This length is just perfect! H&M, you need to make more peplum tops like this one in a variety of colors and prints.

Etsy Update

Work has been sooo crazy this week that I haven’t been able to squeeze in outfit photos at all. But I did have time to update my Etsy shop last weekend with 20 new items, so I thought I’d share a few of the more summery pieces here:

Nautical Lace Trim Blouse, M-L

90s Floral Babydoll Dress, L

It's Not Easy Finding Green

Top: thrifted Target
Skirt: thrifted bebe
Belt: thrifted Axiom
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Fire and Ice

Well, this shade of green at least. I had a T-shirt in about this color that I gave away because I couldn’t get over the stupid little pocket on one boob. But then it took forever to find another top in the same color to replace it. ACTS thrift store finally delivered, though!

PS: Today’s the last day to enter my Shabby Apple gift card giveaway. Be sure to stop by and leave a comment if you’re interested! I’ll choose a winner once I get home from work tomorrow night.

May Favorites

Petite Panoply

The Capricious Club

It completely slipped my mind until about an hour ago that I hadn’t posted my May favorites yet! How did June get here so fast? Jasen even took photos of my outfit today, so I guess I’ll save those for a Sunday or Monday post. I’m planning on doing an Etsy update soon, too, since I’ve photographed 20 new items and now just need to measure and describe them.

It seemed like May was a pretty inspiring month, blogger-wise. I had a hard time narrowing down my favorites to just 10! Based on these picks, I think I need more chambray and at least one rainbow plaid blouse in my life.
