Short and '50s

Shirt: thrifted Harvé Benard
Skirt: Xi
Belt: eBay
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Lipstick: Revlon Fire and Ice

With the salmon, mint and fit-and-flare silhouette, I feel like this looks really ’50s…but with a scandalously short skirt. I wish this skirt were a bit longer, actually, but I loved the colors and print and had to buy it anyway. I just won’t wear it to work. And yeah, it’s from a store called Xi, it’s not Forever 21 with Roman numerals. It’s this cheap little store that I think is only in Pasadena, though maybe there are other ones (now I’ll have to look it up).

PS: We’re trying to adopt the little cat next to me in the first photo. Our neighbors’ cat had kittens and they don’t want to keep this fluffy little guy and he likes Zeus. Lately he’s been hanging out at our apartment and sometimes spending the night, but since his mom and siblings also live on the property he hasn’t quite made the transition to living with us yet! He likes to go back and stay with them too.

Mime Schoolgirl?

1

2

Top: White House, Black Market from a swap with Natasha
Skirt: J. Crew from Buffalo Exchange
Shoes: Aldo
Lipstick: Aveda Cana

I’d been searching for a short-ish (but not too short) black pleated skirt and was excited to come across this one at Buffalo Exchange! I traded older clothes for it, too, and didn’t spend a dime.

I tend to bring the same clothes to Crossroads and Buffalo Exchange over and over again if they don’t sell, with different things mixed in each time, and for most items it’s just a matter of time. I remember there was this one sundress that I took to those stores five times before Buffalo Exchange finally bought it. I’m not that annoying person who brings a giant trash bag of clothes or two, by the way. I keep it to one shopping bag or an organza sack left over from when I worked at MyShape. (We used to send out all the orders in them.)

So, yeah, this outfit is kind of a cross between mime and schoolgirl. I’ve been into black and white more lately, especially for work…though technically the light stripes on this top are a very pale pink. Sometimes I feel like I look French in a really corny way, but then I think, “Eh, what’s wrong with that?”

Flower Pants

Top: Urban Outfitters
Pants: H&M
Shoes: Miz Mooz from Nordstrom Rack
Lipstick: Revlon Fire and Ice

Yes, I have jumped on the floral skinny pant bandwagon. These were $15 at H&M, half off the original price, and I thought the photographic print was really pretty. Also, they were surprisingly flattering (though they did stretch out and sag a bit after I wore them for a while, grrr…). I first tried pairing them with a black and pale pink striped T-shirt first, resulting in an outfit that Jasen said looked “crazy,” so I chickened out and wore them with a simple top. I do want to try wearing them with stripes, though, at some point…maybe a stripe pattern where the lines are thinner and more subtle.

Electric Stripes

Top: thrifted
Skirt: thrifted
Shoes: Aldo
Lipstick: Revlon Kiss Me Coral

It’s a miracle I got home from work today at 6:30 and actually had time to put a blog post up. Work has been super, super hectic lately with the hiring of new managers. Because as everyone knows, more bosses equals more assignments and reports (so you can make them look good). Yet, unfortunately, I have no desire to be a manager myself. I like churning out some kind of creative “product” every day (I’m a copywriter if you haven’t seen me mention that before), so I guess I’ll never make the big bucks.

Well, that has nothing to do with my outfit, except that this is a good example of what I typically wear to work: a short-sleeved sweater or knit top with a pleated or pencil skirt and pointy flats. Are pleated skirts hard to sew? I wish I knew how to make them so I could have them in every color and print that I like, at about this length.

March Favorites

I had the hardest time narrowing down my favorite outfits this month! I’ve been trying to limit it to eight, but I had to add one extra for March because there were just too many fabulous looks popping up on my reading list. I’ve also discovered a couple “new” bloggers whose style I’m really digging, as you’ll see.
