Red, Blue, Yellow

Top: Frenchi from Nordstrom Rack
Skirt: Forever 21 from Buffalo Exchange
Shoes: Aldo
Lipstick: Revlon Fire and Ice

Hey, Happy Easter if you celebrate! This outfit isn’t very Eastery or springy (I wore it yesterday for brunch with friends). I thought it was cool, though. I’ve done the primary colors thing several times, but this is my favorite combination so far. This is the first time the top has been blue, and I think that works best for me since I like to wear red lipstick.

Headband: Urban Outfitters
Sweater: thrifted
Skirt: thrifted, from a swap with Natasha
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Lipstick: Revlon Fire and Ice

I still can’t get enough of these short-sleeved ’80s sweaters. I just found this one a couple weeks ago at Goodwill and really love the pale pink color and swirl patterns. Jasen and I went out to dinner at our favorite Mexican restaurant in Pasadena Saturday night, Chiquita Bonita, then to a tiki bar in North Hollywood called Tiki No, and this bright outfit seemed appropriate.

Tiki No is pretty awesome, especially if you’re not in the mood to deal with the Saturday night crowds in “cooler” parts of L.A. It’s in a kind of random neighborhood and the music isn’t too loud and there are plenty of booths, so you can sit down and be comfortable as you talk or space out drinking your Blue Hawaiian or Jamaican Punch. Apparently on Thursday nights a bunch of food trucks pull up nearby, too, and the bar doesn’t care if you bring your food truck meal inside.

Bright Fuchsia

Dress: thrifted Be Bop
Belt: thrifted
Shoes: Miz Mooz from Nordstrom Rack
Lipstick: Revlon Kiss Me Coral

My friend Natasha found this dress when we were thrift shopping and decided to give it to me. It’s one of those blousy styles that really needs a wide belt, and I liked how it looked with this fuchsia one. Whenever I wear a belt I think I should add them to outfits more often, but I’m usually too lazy. This required little effort, though.

Please excuse this random flower photo below, but I wanted to show off these blossoms that came from trees around our apartment complex because I think they’re so pretty…and I didn’t arrange these. Jasen did! I was so impressed!

Pastels and Shine

Top: Nordstrom Rack
Skirt: thrifted Pastille
Shoes: Aldo
Lipstick: Revlon Love That Red

I found this shimmery peach top in the clearance section at Nordstrom Rack for $5, and the skirt is a recent find from the newer Goodwill that opened in Pasadena. In case you live in the area and are wondering, that Fair Oaks Goodwill generally seems to have more items in better condition but less vintage. The Goodwill on Altadena is better for vintage and weirder stuff. Oh man, I really want to go shopping there today, but I probably should hold off since Jasen and I still owe the IRS $500 after getting our taxes done yesterday.

The Dress Came Back

Dress: thrifted Laura Ashley
Shoes: Miz Mooz from Nordstrom Rack
Lipstick: Kiss Me Coral

I’ve worn this dress for blog photos a couple times before, but I realized I’d never shown it without a sweater, so here it is! This is one of the few clothing items I own that I’d never sell or give away. (Well, I’d give it to a daughter or a niece, but you know.)

I first saw this dress in the Laura Ashley store at South Coast Plaza (long gone now) when I was 11 or 12 years old. I was shopping with my mom and aunt and spotted it hanging on a side wall in a dark wood display area. I, of course, had no money at that age and would never ask for something so expensive, but I remember thinking it was the perfect vintage-style dress and obsessing over the sunburst print and the little waist tabs in front and back.

Then…amazingly…about 10 years ago, I found this dress at Quality Thrift in Montclair while shopping there with my mom! I could not believe it. The exact dress I’d wanted as a preteen. And I still loved it, and it was my size, and I’m still wearing it today at 31 years old. I love it even more now because it reminds me of spending time with my family and the ’90s.
