Get to the Ponte

Dress: Ganni from Anthropologie
Headband: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: thrifted Naturalizer

After avoiding purchasing any new clothing for about three months, I snapped at Anthropologie a couple weekends ago and bought this ponte knit dress. It was on sale. But not inexpensive. However, it’s a perfect royal blue color, it’s machine washable, it has a flattering fit-and-flare silhouette...and it has sleeves! Why is it so hard to find dresses with sleeves? Do those little scraps of fabric really add so much to the production cost of a garment? If I’m going to wear a dress, I don’t want to HAVE to pair it with a cardigan for the office, thanks. Not that I can’t bare my arms at work, but I don’t like to.

Anyway, I guess the name of this post is appropriate after all that rambling. Oh, and for once you might still be able to buy what I’m wearing on my blog in-store. Apparently Anthropologie still has the green and black versions of this dress left on their website, too, in size medium, although the product detail page for the dress doesn’t show up when you’re browsing their sale section. Weird.

  1. That is such a cute dress!
I prefer dresses with sleeves where possible too, I just find it more comfortable.
Machine washable is a good quality for any garment to have!

  4. I read somewhere that most wedding dresses are strapless (even though it's pretty universally unflattering) - not only are the sleeves extra fabric, but it also takes additional tailoring time because everybody has different arms. That's probably why most commercially-made dresses don't have sleeves? The fit could turn people off, in addition to the fabric cost.

  6. Oh Anthroplogie is killer! I try to avoid it at all costs cause I usually end up leaving the store for no money left in my wallet.

  7. I love the dress. I only ever buy anything from Anthropologie on sale. And I was JUST telling myself that I am no longer allowed to buy dresses without sleeves because I need dresses with sleeves!! To cover at least part of my tattoo some of the time. Sheesh.

  8. I NEED SLEEVES ON MY DRESSES! It takes a very special sleeveless dress to sway me. I love pieces like this one—basic, but special. The texture is just lovely.

  9. I love having sleeves on my dresses too! I don't understand why it's so hard to have sleeves. Oh well. I usually will just pair a cardigan with it, but sometimes that's just too hot. That dress you found is awesome though! Such a flattering silhouette and beautiful color.
