This Old Thing?

Dress: Forever 21
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Lipstick: Revlon Rose Velvet

I was debating whether to post these photos since I kind of look pregnant in them. I’m definitely not, although I drank a boba tea before these were taken, so that might explain it. I should have held the boba tea in the photos. It went perfectly with the polka dot print!

This dress is pretty old, maybe six or seven years? My friend Natasha used to have the same one, but I think she wore hers more often and it eventually fell apart. It’s great to throw on in 90-degree weather, and I love this ’60s shape, even if it’s not the most flattering.

Earth Tones

Top: Urban Outfitters
Skirt: thrifted vintage Mondele
Shoes: Target
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Love That Red

Yes, it’s the trusty green pleated skirt again. Best Goodwill find ever, except maybe aside from my cream popcorn stitch sweater that I found the same day. This is another one of my go-to work outfits that I’ve never gotten around to posting on the blog. I’ve been wearing this combination for two or three years, since back when I was working for MyShape.

I also wish I’d bought this top in every color when Urban Outfitters had it. It’s the perfect length and I love the texture and little bow. It has a hole in it that I stitched up badly, but I still wear it anyway figuring the thread blends in enough that no one will notice.

Little White Shorts

Top: Target
Shorts: thrifted Work Order
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Fire and Ice

These ’80s shorts look weird and lumpy with a top tucked into them, but I’ve found myself wearing them a lot lately with loose, untucked tops. White shorts go with everything, after all, even if you do have to be careful where you sit. I’m amazed this pair has survived since the ’80s without stains, although I’m sure I’ll destroy them eventually.

Lollipops and Popsicles

Shirt: thrifted Old Navy
Skirt: Elisa Landri via Crossroads
Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Christian Siriano for Payless
Bag: Tignanello via eBay
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Certainly Red

I guess I could come across as more sophisticated and be taken more seriously if I didn’t wear things like this, but dressing colorfully is too much fun. I recently acquired this skirt by trading in other clothes at Crossroads in Pasadena after realizing I only had 26 skirts in my closet, not counting the ones I’ve decided to sell on Etsy. Yeah, I know. I just had to go on the hunt for more skirts, of course. I started my blog with 29 skirts, and now I have an excuse to maintain that number in my wardrobe.

The other thing about bright and light colors is they’re a lot more comfortable in the Southern California heat. I wore this on Saturday, which was sooo hot, especially in West Covina, Walnut and Pomona, where Jasen and I were hanging out with our friends. We went on a double date to Ikea (don’t judge, it was awesome), had boba tea and walked around the Pomona Arts Colony, stopping by the La Bomba vintage shop where I tried on a romper that belonged at an ’80s barbecue and some midcentury dresses with waists so small I couldn’t zip them up.

So Easy

Dress: Forever 21 via Buffalo Exchange
Shoes: Christian Siriano for Payless
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Love That Red

I guess this isn’t much of an “outfit,” but for work in the summer in Southern California, it’s pretty much the easiest thing to wear: a lightweight dress with sleeves and peep-toe flats. I found this dress at the Buffalo Exchange in Santa Monica the same day I found this one

As for these shoes, well, I was kind of obsessed with them after seeing them on the Payless website but not available in my size there. I went to a couple of Payless locations that also didn’t have them before wising up and discovering that you can search for shoes in-store on the Payless website. And they had a pair right over at the Arcadia mall.

Skirts Everywhere

Top: White House, Black Market from a swap with Natasha
Skirt: Fei from Anthropologie
Shoes: Jessica Simpson

As you can see, my blog finally has a nice design! I am Photoshop challenged, but my awesome friend Emily is a graphic designer and illustrator so I paid her (not nearly as much as I think I should have) to redo my blog. All I asked for was a background of illustrated skirts based on skirts I’ve worn in outfit photo, and daaaaang, she went way beyond what I expected! I knew whatever she did would be super cool, though, because I had seen lots of her work and she is incredibly talented. Thank you, Emily, for making my blog look respectable!

Summer Pleats

Blouse: thrifted
Skirt: thrifted
Shoes: Naturalizer
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Certainly Red

A sleeveless blouse and pleated skirt together make me think of early '60s college students. I like how neat and tidy this combination is, while the colors are bold.

I'm on a short vacation from work right now because my office gave everyone the 4th, 5th and 6th off for a super-long weekend. It's pretty awesome. We have a few longer-than-usual holiday breaks like this throughout the year, but the trade-off is that we don't have a lot of PTO days at our discretion.

Aaaand here's an outtake for you where I look like a zombie:

Hey, Chambray

Dress: Forever 21
Necklace: My So Called Vintage on Etsy
Shoes: thrifted Jazzberry
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Fire and Ice

I saw Jamie Rose wearing this dress on her blog, Petite Panoply, recently and decided I had to find it! It’s a perfect lightweight, versatile summer dress, and I love how there are no breast pockets. I think the fabric is thin enough that I could even wear it as a top under a full skirt. It’s also 100% cotton, so it’s comfortable and machine washable.
