Thrifted Thursday No. 13

Shirt, skirt and shoes: thrifted

Over a month ago I saw Lydia of Style Is Style wearing a chambray shirt with a floral skirt and loved the combination, so I decided I had to try it for myself! I found this Ann Taylor shirt at the Arcadia Goodwill, and although I would like the fit to be a bit looser, well, I’m a thrifter and I work with whatever I can find. I like the fabric a lot — it’s very light, almost sheer, and cool.

I have to say that Ann Taylor makes some great clothes. My khaki high-waisted shorts are Ann Taylor (also thrifted) and fit my body so well. And none of the Ann Taylor blouses I’ve found gapes too much at my bust when buttoned, which is pretty amazing.

I’ve been thinking lately that I need to thrift more shoes. I actually only have three thrifted pairs: these red slingbacks, my red low wedges and my tan wedges with an ankle strap that I wear all the time on here. I had some Seychelles wedges from Goodwill, too, but I had to finally admit that they were just too big to walk in comfortably and sold them at Crossroads. Most of all, I want some yellow shoes and some white or ivory heels or wedges since I own no yellow shoes at all, and the only white shoes I have are almost worn-out flats.

  2. That skirt is fantastic! The length is really great on you, and the print is so vibrant and eye-catching. I do rather like Ann Taylor clothes. My sister found an amazing red silk dress in the sale section there, and it's one of those things that could go quite professional or casual depending on how you style it. (I didn't realize your khaki shorts were Ann Taylor! They're so perfect on you!)

  3. It can be tough to find good shoes. I think people either take very good or very poor care of them, and there are more poor than good! Lovely skirt!

  5. I really like this view for photographs! Shoes seem really hard to find. They are either beat to hell or just so-so aesthetically offensive one cannot justify the purchase. I am impressed with what you have managed to find so far!

  6. I've got a couple Ann Taylor pieces too, and I agree they seem perfectly cut for my body type.
Love this skirt. I've never tried the chambray/floral combo but I like it a lot.

  8. That whole outfit fits you perfectly! Do you ever have to alter the clothes you get at thrift stores? Everything you wear looks like it was made for you! :)

I really want some yellow shoes too- they would brighten up any outfit!

  9. the problem i've had with thrifted shoes is that they SEEM fine while i'm in the shop, but within a wear or two they've completely fallen apart. age and neglect tend to make them brittle and fragile. it's a major bummer.

  10. Ahh! I love thrifted outfits! The thing with thrifting is that you really need to identify clothing before purchasing. I try to avoid purchasing items such as Forever 21 and such as thrift stores because I know they're not made of the best quality. But Ann Taylor...most definitely.

A lot of my shoes are thrifted as well! I have a pair of vintage red Etienne Aigner loafers that look like they've barely been worn. And they're soo comfy.

Loving this thrifted outfit! Hope you find those ivory shoes!! :)

  11. thrifted shoes are the best. i find lots of great ones for my etsy shop. the difficult part with respect to selling them is sizing and shipping, which is about $7. sort of expensive.
i love your red slingbacks. i also love your top. i especially like the color and length of the sleeves.

  16. Lovely. I'm really glad the shirt isn't looser: it looks great on you fitted like that (does that sound creepy? I don't mean it to be. Really). Ann Taylor DOES make some great clothes...and I recently discovered that she makes some really gorgeous jewelry, too. Now I just need the money to buy it all.
