Rose Colored

Top: Cotton On
Skirt: thrifted Banana Republic
Belt: from a vintage dress I bought on eBay years ago and didn’t like
Shoes: Jessica Simpson

I doubt anyone really notices or cares, but I felt like my photos came out so weird today. I don’t know if it was the early morning light or the color of this skirt or if I got slightly sunburned this weekend, but everything looked super red. I learned to adjust levels just now to reduce the redness, and I still feel like these are odd. The red light in the original photos was eerie and kind of apocalyptic.

Anyway, this outfit was based on (1) only having black bras not in the laundry and having to wear a dark shirt as a result and (2) feeling like I should wear this skirt since it’s just been hanging out in my closet forever. I have worn it before several times but not recently. I guess I feel like it attracts too much attention at the office.

What’s Up, Dots?

Skirt: Forever 21
Shoes: Soda

I can’t believe it, I’m off work for four days! Our company closes down from the Friday before Memorial Day through Monday, which is pretty awesome. I’m going hunting for more clothes for my Etsy shop tomorrow, and I can’t wait. I think I could spend, hmmm, six straight hours searching through racks.

Cool and Warm

Blouse: thrifted Forever 21
Skirt: thrifted Petite Sophisticate
Bag: Tignanello
Shoes: Target
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Certainly Red

Oh, hey, I’m wearing green and red again, what a surprise. I’ve actually never worn this blouse and skirt together before, though, and I’m glad I discovered this “new” (if basic) combination. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of red with light blues and greens.

Well, I could go on, but there’s a warm apple crumble from Fresh and Easy on the stove and a Dr. Katz DVD from Netflix calling my name. Yes, I’m watching Dr. Katz.

Thrifted Thursday No. 36

Sweater: thrifted vintage Cuddle Knits
Skirt: thrifted J. Crew
Shoes: thrifted Libby Edelman
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Fire and Ice

Wow, I haven’t done one of these posts in a while! It seems like whenever I’m wearing an all-thrifted outfit something gets in the way and photos are not to be that day. But I’m glad it worked out this morning because, even though it might seem silly, I really like creating outfits that are completely secondhand but still look pulled together. Plus, I’m cheap and get a kick out of wearing an outfit that cost less than $20.

I guess I get that from my dad. My siblings and I used to call him Father Frugal because he wouldn’t buy us Oreos, only Hydrox (anyone else remember those?), and if he bought Fruit Roll-Ups, he would hide them in the trunk of his car so he we couldn’t just go help ourselves. Also, if Cheerios were on sale, he would stockpile them in the pantry. I guess when you have four kids you kind of have to be like that. I can’t imagine being able to afford even one rugrat, especially with the cost of living in California.

A Little Bit Rockabilly

Hair pin: c/o Boogervampire’s Crypt of DOOM!!!
Shirt: thrifted Old Navy
Skirt: Fei from Anthropologie
Shoes: Soda

Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Love That Red

Isn’t this hair pin cool?? It’s one of a set made by my friend Mary, whom I met through my friend Natasha. They’re both artists and met each other while working on South Park. (Yes, THAT South Park, that’s how awesome they are.) Mary works on another show now, which I won’t mention here because she said on her website that she’s not allowed to name it. But suffice it to say she is super talented and if you like this pin, you should check out her shop because it’s full of neato prints, jewelry and more.

I wore this outfit for Mother’s Day since I wanted to look kind of festive even though it was hot out and Jasen and I were running errands, cleaning and cooking all day. Well, Jasen did most of the cooking. I just made a peach crumble for dessert. We had his mom and brother over for dinner and it was a fun night with family!

In Tunic

Top: Forever 21
Jeans: bebe
Shoes: Jessica Simpson

I’ve never really liked how tunics look on me and, actually, I don’t know if this top qualifies as a tunic, but...it’s long and was fun to wear with these jeans. I think this particular “tunic” looks decent because of the dolman sleeves and how it drapes. I bought it in San Francisco a couple months ago when I was visiting my sister.

Our neighbors’ cat, Loki, needed to be photographed again too. I love his tongue in the second photo.

Tropic of Conversation

Sweater: Urban Outfitters
Skirt: thrifted
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

New clothes haven’t been part of my budget lately, but I was feeling like embracing the tropical trend. Fortunately I had this bright skirt that I found at Goodwill last summer in my closet. I love how it has a zillion colors! It sits a little low on my hips, so I don’t wear it often, but the solution to that is a sweater with a waistband that hits at just the right place.

I’m sorry, I know I wear short-sleeved sweaters all the time. I can’t help it. They’re just the best because (A) they’re soft and comfortable, (B) no buttons means no bust gapping, (C) they work great with skirts and over dresses, (D) they often have pretty texture...and, yeah, I’m sure there are more reasons, but those are my top ones.

Back to the Romper

Sweater: thrifted
Romper: thrifted
Shoes: Soda
Lipstick: Revlon Super Lustrous Crème Lipstick in Fire and Ice

I hadn’t worn this ’90s Wet Seal romper since last summer, and it put me in a great mood to throw it on for errand-running yesterday. It reminded me of staying at Seal Beach with my mom last year, plus it’s so comfortable. I wish I could wear this to work, but I don’t think I’d be taken seriously enough if I did.

On an unrelated note, does anyone know anything about Mazda Miatas? Jasen’s Miata broke down this past week, and we’re trying to decide whether to repair it or sell it to our mechanic, who offered to buy it from us if the repair is so costly it’s not worth it to us. Basically some part made of aluminum melted and damaged the engine, but the car is only about seven years old and has less than 140,000 miles on it. I’m wondering how much longer it will run after the repair if we decide to fix it. Ughhhh, cars. Just when you’ve saved enough money to move to a safer neighborhood, they eat it up.

Put Some Leopard on It

Headband: Urban Outfitters
Sweater: This Vintage Girl on Etsy
Skirt: thrifted
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

The last few mornings have been the kind where I tear my closet apart trying to decide what to wear. Today I finally threw some primary colors together and felt like it was a cop out. But then I saw my leopard headband sitting on my dresser and realized it could spice up my outfit. I immediately thought of “Put a bird on it” from Portlandia. “Put some leopard on it” should be the style blogger equivalent.

Zeus doesn’t like it when we’re outside and he’s inside.
