1 Skirt 4 Ways

I decided to do another one of these posts today since I haven’t in a while and I was totally undisciplined over my four-day Memorial Day weekend and didn’t take any outfit photos. When I first found this skirt at Goodwill it was a maxi skirt, but I decided to get it shortened because…I’ve just never been into the maxi thing. I might change my mind at some point, but I prefer shorter lengths and I don’t own a single maxi dress or skirt despite their being really trendy right now.

So here are four ways I’ve worn my cameo-head skirt. It was one of the best thrifting finds I’ve ever made. I need to find more ways to wear it in hot weather, though.

Little Bow Top

Top: Urban Outfitters
Skirt: thrifted Pastille
Shoes: MIA from Nordstrom Rack
Lipstick: Revlon Fire and Ice

I should do a “1 Top 4 Ways” post on this thin short-sleeved sweater. I like how it’s a basic neutral color, a good length and lightweight enough to wear tucked in…but it also has some cool details. I bought it on sale for $10, and I’ve probably worn it 100 times. It got a small hole at one point, which I sewed up, and it’s kept on trucking ever since.

Stripey Skirt

Sweater: thrifted Theme
Skirt: Dorothy Perkins
Shoes: MIA from Nordstrom Rack
Lipstick: Aveda Cana

After missing out on a horizontal striped skirt I hesitated to buy on Etsy, I started searching everywhere for a similar one. It took a while, but I finally stumbled upon this Dorothy Perkins skirt by doing a Google search and I love it. I accidentally ordered the petite version and was kind of worried, but I think the length is fine even though I’m a little over 5’6”.

One problem, though: this skirt made me even more obsessed than I already was with finding a chambray shirt, too, because I think it would look really good with one. But boy is it hard to find a chambray shirt with no pockets on the boobs that doesn’t gap at the bust and is also affordable. I have one that I found at Goodwill, but I only wear it over a bathing suit to the beach because it totally gaps. So…instead of wearing that gappy chambray shirt in this outfit (which I tried to make work for about 15 minutes before giving up), I tried out this fluffy angora sweater that I also found at Goodwill. It reminds me of one I had in high school in the mid-’90s.

California Colors

Dress: Forever 21
Sweater: Windsor
Shoes: Aldo
Lipstick: Aveda Cana

I really love living in California. I could spend years driving around and exploring just this state and be happy. I love how, even in the city, there’s fruit growing everywhere. I always want to pull over and steal it off trees when I’m driving home from work. And I love seeing the orangey-gold light and shadows falling over the rolling hills in the early evening. I’m glad my grandparents decided to move here in the ’40s and ’50s. My grandma told me when she first came to Los Angeles there were wildflowers growing everywhere and of course more citrus groves. I wish I could have seen this place before all the sprawl and smog, but…it’s still beautiful now anyway.
