I had to get out of the apartment today, so I went to three Goodwill stores. I only bought four items, which is good, but my feet are so tired. When I got home, instead of finding the unemployment check that I need to pay bills, which was due to arrive today, I was greeted by a letter from the California EDD telling me that I have a phone interview scheduled for Monday to verify that I’m looking for work. It also says that my check won’t be sent until after that interview. NICE! It’s a good thing I’ve been keeping track of where I’ve applied for jobs. Still, of course I’m freaking out that the number of jobs I’ve applied for won’t be enough. I know I’m very lucky to get decent unemployment benefits at all (California isn’t bad at taking care of its people in that area). But wow, there’s nothing like waiting all weekend to be investigated by a government department.

Disneyland Photos

The other day Green Tea and Cupcakes asked me to post some Disneyland photos, so here they are! Jasen and I got Southern California annual passes for the park last year before I lost my job and Natasha and her fiancé Mike also have passes, so we’ve gone to Disneyland many times over the past several months. My sister also had a pass when she was still in California, so I went with her too. I didn’t take any photos the other day when Jasen and I were there by ourselves, and I usually don’t take photos. I’ve tried taking outfit photos in the park a couple of times, but it’s difficult because it’s hard to find a good background where there aren’t lots of people walking by constantly. However, Natasha took photos on a couple of our trips, so all of these are hers, except the last one.

The Dumbo ride was my childhood favorite. I still love it, but I can hardly ever convince anyone else to stand in line for it.

A while back I mentioned that I had bought another skirt that needed the hem fixed before I could wear it. Well, this is it! I couldn’t resist it at Goodwill because I thought the print was so interesting and I love jewel tones.

I wonder a lot whether I should change the name of my blog. I knew when I started it that I would eventually have more than 29 skirts, but I needed a name to start with and figured, “Hey, it will always be fine because I started with 29.” And I started the blog at age 29, so...yeah, that was my logic. Maybe I’ll think of something better at some point, but for now I guess I’ll stick with it.

Today was another summery day in Southern California, so I wore my white skirt. I like how the striped top creates a sort of nautical vibe with this pleated skirt, but since the top is green and white rather than navy and white, it’s a little more subtle. I think this is my favorite silhouette: a fitted, puffed-sleeve top with a full skirt. I love pencil skirts, too, but I feel most comfortable in this combination.

Over the weekend I was lazy outfit-wise and just wore jeans and sweaters. It was a great weekend, though. On Saturday Jasen and I went to Fry’s Home Electronics so I could get an external hard drive to back up my blog files and a webcam so I could talk to my sister in Australia on Skype. Yay! I had never been to Fry’s, and I couldn’t believe how awesome it was. They have EVERYTHING. It’s like the Home Depot of computer stores. I’m sure plenty of you have been there and I’m way behind the times, but yeah, it rocked. After that we went to downtown Burbank and walked around and had yogurt at Yogurtland.

On Sunday my brother Trevor and I had dinner at King Taco and went to the free improv show at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. Did anyone ever watch the UCB show that used to be on Comedy Central? I’ve been a fan of their group since then, and I’ve probably gone to their local L.A. theatre 20 times now. I once had a dream that Matt Besser asked me to write a pilot script for a new comedy with him.

Everything I wore today was thrifted, except for my underwear of course, and I’m very happy about that! I’ve worn this giraffe-print top once before and blogged about it here. It belongs to Natasha, and when I tried to return it to her, she told me to wear it at least one more time before giving it back. So here it is!

By the way, I wanted to clear something up: I mentioned the other day that Natasha should start a blog. Well, I was talking about a style blog because she actually already has a blog for her artwork. If you like animation and illustration, check it out! She recently created the coolest “save the date” animation for her upcoming wedding.

It felt like summer today in Southern California. We had to turn on the air conditioner for the first time since fall. It made me want to go to the beach sooo much. I may be pale, but I love the beach as long as I slather myself in sunscreen beforehand.

Jasen and I have a lot of mashed potatoes left over from the party I went to Monday night, so for dinner we got a roasted chicken and a box of Stove Top stuffing from Ralphs to have with them. Yeah, it was stuffing from a box, but it was delicious. We just finished eating while watching the final episode of the Story of India miniseries on Netflix, which, by the way, is excellent. The Story of India, I mean, although I love Netflix too. Now I need to hurry up and post this so we can use the laptop to watch some Anthony Bourdain.
