Drive-By

Skirt: BB Dakota
Sweater: thrifted, a.n.a.
Coat: Forever Audrey
Tights: For Love 21
Shoes: Payless

There was a drive-by shooting at our apartment complex today! I wasn’t home when it happened, but Jasen was. I had gone on a Goodwill run so I wouldn’t distract Jasen while he was working on a writing project. He called me while I was out to tell me he had been making pancakes in the kitchen when gunfire erupted in the courtyard outside our front door. Apparently one of our neighbors has been involved in some gang-related activity...or, uh, is a gang member...and a man and woman visited our apartments today to shoot him. He was shot in the arm and legs according to witnesses. So far I’ve only found this report online. It’s after 7 p.m. now, and police are still outside questioning residents of our complex.

Most of the families who live here are furious about this because they’ve complained to the management many times about the weirdness going on in that unit. People are always coming and going, day and night, and talking loudly and yelling and revving up motorcycles. The saddest part is that there are often several children in the apartment. I’ve heard that the women who live there are running an unlicensed daycare.

I really wish we could move away, but that’s not possible right now. I’m hoping we can at least get our rent reduced.

And about the outfit...well, these photos were taken this morning before it started pouring rain and bullets around here! I felt like wearing bright colors in the dark weather, and I particularly wanted to wear this ruched-sleeve sweater that I found brand-new, with the tags on, at Goodwill recently.

  2. Geeze Louise! I'm glad Zeus wasn't caught in the cross-fire. Was he outside at the time?!

Martin was shocked when I read this entry to him. He said "But she lives in such a nice area!"

    PS: Love the coat.

  3. Thanks for the comments, Green Tea and Hills!

Zeus was inside sleeping on our bed, and Jasen said he didn't do anything. Our area isn't too bad, and up until now I haven't seen anything really crazy going on. But I have heard that there is a Los Robles gang (named after our street).
