So I decided to dress like a blueberry for some reason. I guess the reason is that I’ve been wanting to wear these tights, but I think they look best with a very short hemline, and since I don’t usually wear very short skirts and dresses, these tights haven’t been worn much and I finally had a good opportunity to work them into an outfit. You might remember this dress from my haul blog post a couple weeks ago. I feel like it’s just on the edge of being too short on me, and in the future I’ll probably wear it tucked into skirts more often than like this.

I love how this dress from Anthropologie has a 1940s look but with a hemline that falls above the knee and that interesting asymmetry thing going on. I bought this on sale at some point, but I can’t remember if it was last summer or the summer before. I’ve worn it several times with this yellow cardigan because I feel like the print needs something to brighten it up. It’s a pretty enough print with colors that I like, but I keep thinking about a review someone posted on the Anthro website saying that it looked “too drab.”

Also, I’m so excited that it was warm enough today to wear these little rose-print socks instead of tights. I was at a For Love 21 store the other day, and they had a whole bunch of super cute socks like this for $0.95 per pair. I also bought some gray ones with hot pink bows. I might have to go back and get more. I remember polka dots, hearts, stripes, mushrooms...SO many that I wanted.

Anthro Lust

I love pretend shopping on Anthropologie’s site because everything is so far out of my price range that I’m not even tempted to hit the checkout button. This was generally true even when I had a job, although a few — I’m talking fewer than 10 — beloved Anthro items crept into my wardrobe over the years.

So, since I just got their March catalogue in the mail, I decided to update my Anthro wish list and share some of my favorites here. (Also, I didn’t wear anything blog worthy today.)

Kingston Road Dress

The colors of this dress remind me of saltwater taffy, and I love the stripes! This was the only item in the catalogue that really caught my attention as I was flipping through. What a gorgeous summery style.

Temperate Climes Pullover

Short-sleeved sweaters are a wardrobe staple for me and I own no navy tops, so I really want this. It looks so soft and comfortable, and I love the geometric patterns. This sweater’s silhouette is somewhat similar to that of the coral Moth sweater I bought at Anthro a couple of years ago but with a higher neckline.

China Patterns Blouse

This is just crazy pretty and looks vintage. I could see this tucked into so many skirts, and I’d love to wear it with my high-waisted denim shorts.

The Stars Come Out Oxfords

Yes, the perforations are little STARS! AUGH! These are so freaking cute! I think I want these more than anything else at Anthro right now. I’ve been wanting a similar pair at Modcloth for a while, the Strolling the Stacks Heel, but I think this Anthro pair is even better — because they have STARS and a closed toe.

De Vincennes Owl Dinner Plate

I bought Jasen this octopus dinner plate as part of his Valentine’s Day gift last year because he loves octopuses. He eats almost every meal off it. Well, now I want the owl De Vincennes plate to go with it so we have two of these adorable plates and I can also eat off one, although I have to say that I think the octopus version is the cutest of all of them.

Garden of the Spectrum Mini

Of course I had to end with a skirt. I haven’t been interested in any Anthro skirts in a long time — okay, not since last summer — but this one is divine. Look at all those beautiful colors! And it has a high waist, and an exposed back zipper, and I don’t have a lot of skirts in shorter lengths like this. And, um, it’s $198.

I love wearing blues and greens...these colors feel so peaceful. If I could decorate our home any way I wanted, the palette would consist of olive, turquoise, teal, etc. Today I wanted to wear this blue belt that I thrifted recently, and although, of course, it would pop against yellow or red or a neutral, I really liked the idea of pairing it with this cardigan so it would pick up some of the blue from the print and create a sort of peplum effect. I was afraid the bottom of the cardigan would bunch up too much, but it worked out okay, I think because the skirt has a yoke at the top so the cardigan could more easily lie flat over it. Wow, I just noticed that the front of my hair is doing something weird in this photo and all my photos for today. I was going to try to switch to a different photo after I saw it in this one, but it's inescapable.

I felt like starting the new month with something fun and interesting, incorporating a summer dress with a sweater and tights. But I think maybe this is a little too crazy. Then again, I really like all the colors together. But I realize there is some serious pattern and era mixing going on that might not be to everyone’s liking.

I found this sweater at the Pasadena Goodwill last summer. It was unravelled a bit at one shoulder, but I thought the popcorn-stitch design was so pretty and unique. I don’t know how to knit, but I was able to sew the edges of the shoulder together well enough that you can no longer see any damage.

The dress that I’m wearing underneath the sweater is a piece with sentimental value. My friend Natasha and I both bought this dress at the same time years ago on one of the crazy shopping sprees that we used to indulge in when we were younger and more carefree. The empire-waist shift silhouette isn’t the most flattering on me, but I liked the idea of wearing it with this sweater to define my natural waist.

Yes, I stood too close to the fire extinguisher, which would have been funny if this outfit were sexy.
