I felt so '60s in this today, especially because these shoes actually are that old, I think. I kind of feel like I shouldn’t be wearing them because they're amazingly preserved for their age, but... oh well! They look good with a lot of outfits.

Can you believe this blouse is from Talbots? I love a good roll-neck (or whatever it's called) about as much as I love Peter Pan collar, and this type of neck is even harder to find on contemporary clothing.

This weekend was a lot of fun and way too short, as usual. I wore this outfit to brunch for my friend Mary's birthday at Bottega Louie in downtown L.A. It's a pretty cool place. They have an amazing bakery area full of macarons and fancy pastries, and I felt like my slightly foofy outfit fit right in.

I'm proud that, aside from the purse, this outfit probably cost me less than $15 because the top was bought with a gift card and everything else came from my favorite thrift stores. And I was pleasantly surprised that these pieces all seemed to work together...apparently black, brown and navy polka dots can be friends.

Mary with her birthday dessert, the butterscotch budino with fleur de sel on top. I need to go back just to taste this again.

I had to try the melon juice because...how many places serve melon juice? I think it would have been better if it were chilled.

This is one of the bakery counters. I held back and didn't buy macarons because I like the ones at Euro Pane in Pasadena and they're larger and less expensive there anyway.

These photos are kind of blurry because they were taken in low light. You know why? Because I was at my dad’s house playing Scrabble with my brother Trevor as the sun was setting and had to finish our very competitive game before getting my youngest brother, Jeremy, to take my photos in the front yard. Trevor won by a couple points, so we’ll have to have a rematch.

Anyway, this is what I wore on Father’s Day, which is why I was at my dad’s house. My brothers and I took him out to lunch, and then we went bowling. After that my dad wanted to watch the Miami vs. Oklahoma City NBA game, so Trevor and I broke out the Scrabble and some booze.

Even though the photos are blurry and my dress is wrinkled, I had to post these to show off this dress that I found at Buffalo Exchange in Santa Monica last week. My hunt for more dresses with sleeves was successful that day; I also found a more fitted floral dress with short ruched sleeves. Secondhand stores are the way to go!

This weekend was hot, so I kept wanting to wear drapey things like this top I found at Target recently. It’s very comfortable, and I’m sure they still have it at Target right now. It comes in several prints, but I liked this one the best because of the color and the understated Southwesterness of it.

1 Skirt 4 Ways

I thought I’d do something different (for my blog) today and post a few older photos of ways I’ve styled the same skirt. If people like it, I’m thinking I might make it an ongoing type of post. I’ve always enjoyed other bloggers’ “remix” posts, even if it is an excuse to reuse old photos. Anyway, dug up from the past, here are four of my favorite ways I’ve worn my moss green pleated skirt.

Thrifted Thursday No. 3 

This is one of my few outfits that ever made it into the Chictopia style gallery. I liked it a lot personally, and I got a compliment from an elderly woman at Target the day I wore it. I think this skirt goes well with a wide belt because the waistband is so tall. Also, I miss that purse! I found it at Quality Thrift and the oxblood color was perfect, but it was pretty cheap and fell apart from being used a lot.

I hardly ever wear a belt over a cardigan, but I really loved this outfit because I think the blues and green are great together. This outfit was not popular on Chictopia. It made me feel good, though. I remember wearing it to run some errands in Old Town Pasadena.

Meow!

I liked how the neutrals worked here with the red lips, leopard belt, red shoes combo. This outfit is all thrifted and reminds me that I need to break out that belt more often. In fact, hmmm, all my favorite outfits with this skirt so far have involved belts. Time to stop being lazy and work them into more outfits.

A Leaf Affair

This felt like a good fall outfit for Southern California...appropriate for hot weather but with turning leaf colors. Unfortunately, I think I may have sold that top at Crossroads. I need to go look in the last bag I took there and see if it’s gone because now I kind of regret taking it in. I never wore it much because it had a stiff zipper up the side that made it impossible to tuck in. It worked untucked with this skirt, though, for a drop-waist effect.
