Swap Skirt

Shirt: thrifted
Skirt: H&M, from a swap with Natasha
Headband: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

After our yard sale on Saturday, Natasha and I swapped some of our leftover clothes, and I ended up with this awesome skirt! She took my purple pencil skirt in return. I’ve been trying to weed out a few pencil skirts from my collection that don’t fit perfectly or that I don’t wear a lot and replace them with more casual skirts. Well, this one is really cool because it could go either way. It’s somewhat casual because it’s cotton, but it could be dressed up as well. Plus, I’ve really been wanting a yellow summery skirt since my only other yellow skirt is made of wool. Thanks, Tasha!

Sheath or Shift?

Dress: thrifted
Shoes: Urban Outfitters
Bag: Tignanello

Although this dress is probably from the ’90s, something about the silhouette, waist cutouts and print make it seem sort of late ’60s to me. I like how it’s somewhere between a sheath and a shift — just a bit shaped and not too clingy.

I went shopping today with my yard sale earnings, and it was pretty cool to buy a few new things (and a few more used things from Goodwill). I hit the sale accessory bins at Urban Outfitters first, where I found some of those fabric-covered knot headbands they’ve had for a while. They were originally $16 each, but they were only $4.99 on sale! I’ve been wanting to try wearing some hair accessories, so I bought three of them: one in cheetah print, one in red and white gingham and one in a blue and pink floral print. Now let’s see if I have the guts to wear them.

After Urban I went to H&M in search of yellow shoes and instead ended up with a cream sundress with a black bow print that I really should not have spent money on, but it fit so well and I can think of lots of ways to layer it when the weather gets cooler.

Finally, I stopped by Goodwill and bought a blouse, plus a vintage short-sleeved sweater and skirt that were 50% off. I should put the sweater in my Etsy shop, but...I don’t know if I can part with it yet. Maybe it will end up in there after I wear it a couple of times.

By the way, I also recently added a few more items to the shop! My mom found some of them in Colorado and brought them to me when she came to visit recently.

Fiery

Top: Forever 21, found at Crossroads
Shorts: thrifted
Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

It is so HOT! Sorry if I look kind of shiny! I’m wearing this airy, almost sheer, cotton-silk top because it felt like it was 100 degrees outside today, although I think it only got up to the 90s. Southern California has also been unusually humid this summer, so it feels really gross.

I spent most of the day getting ready for a yard sale that Natasha and I are having at her apartment tomorrow. I keep walking through our apartment trying to find more things to sell. I love getting rid of clutter, and it’s even better if I can make some cash.

Thrifted Thursday No. 20

Tank, skirt, belt and shoes: thrifted
Wallet: gift from my friend Natasha

Well, I kind of messed up my thrifted theme today by grabbing this wallet for the photos! I chose my outfit this morning remembering that it was “Thrifted Thursday,” but then I got excited about how pretty this wallet looked with the skirt and forgot that I shouldn’t add it. Anyway...since it’s here, I’ll talk about it. My friend Natasha recently took a trip to Stockholm and Barcelona, and she brought me back this wallet from Spain. She has one, too, with a teal background.

I mainly dressed for the heat today, since it’s in the 90s here. This skirt is kind of long but so cool, and then I had to add a light cotton tank top. I found both the tank and the skirt at the Pasadena Goodwill. The tank is from American Apparel, and the skirt is from the 80s, I think, and has a tag that says “Ann Stevens New York.”

El Matador

Blouse: thrifted
Shorts: thrifted
Shoes: Pink Studio

Today Jasen and I took a picnic to the most beautiful beach we’ve ever seen in Southern California, El Matador State Beach. It’s in a somewhat out-of-the-way place, at the north end of Malibu. And wow. It is GORGEOUS.

While we were sitting on the beach, a couple having their engagement photos (well, I assume) taken walked by, and as we were leaving, several photographers were taking photos of oiled-up swimsuit models on the rocks. A few other groups of people were there this afternoon, but otherwise it wasn’t that crowded. I can’t wait to go back!

Meow!

Top, skirt, belt and shoes: thrifted

I love how Zeus decided to pose for some outfit photos on a day when I’m wearing a leopard-print belt. He’s even sort of posed the same way as me. I just need a tail sticking out to my right side. Hmm, now I’m kind of tempted to Photoshop that in. Yeah, I know I’m weird.

It would be cool if I could take photos holding Zeus sometime, too, but he would never stand for that. He does NOT like to be picked up, even though he comes and sits on my lap all the time when we’re indoors.

So Simple

Top: Urban Outfitters
Skirt: thrifted
Shoes: Naturalizer

Sometimes I get so caught up in color blocking and trying to mix prints that I forget how much I love wearing a simple outfit with a balanced silhouette. There’s nothing easier to me than pairing a tee or short-sleeved sweater with a pencil skirt, but I really liked how these particular pieces went together to create a sort of 1940s look.

Seal Beach Day 2

I'm back from Seal Beach! Here are a few more photos that I took today. My aunt and cousin Walt stayed at the hotel with me and my mom last night, and this morning we all had breakfast at Ruby's on the pier. We spent the rest of the day relaxing in the hotel spa and sitting on the beach, joined in the afternoon by my mom's friend Tami, my brother Jeremy and his girlfriend, Ariana. That's my kind of vacation: talking, eating and just hanging out with family and friends!

Seal Beach Day 1

Here are a few photos from our first day in Seal Beach! Although seals very rarely show up around here anymore (well, actually, I read somewhere that this was never a favorite seal hangout and that the city was given its name to attract investors and tourists), they do have a cool old Pacific Electric Railway car, antique shops and one of the two best pizza places I know of in Southern California, Slice of New York.
