To Belt or Not To Belt

Dress: Rose Bowl Flea Market
Pin: gift with giveaway from My So Called Vintage
Belt: thrifted
Tights: Target
Shoes: Urban Outfitters

Maybe you remember that back in September I said I bought two dresses at the Rose Bowl Flea Market and then never wore the second one. Well, this is it! It’s made of fabric that feels like flannel, so I couldn’t wear it while the weather was super hot. It was still kind of too hot to wear it today and too hot to wear these tights, but I thought it would be cooler in Oak Glen, which Jasen and I visited this afternoon. It wasn’t.

In fact, it was so hot that we ended up just sticking to the shaded area with the shops and restaurants and not going into any orchards or fields. And the apple picking had ended for the season because of an unusually small crop. So that’s why I don’t have any cool photos of Oak Glen. Yeah. At least we tried some apple pie and got a nice bag of apples! Next year I will plan accordingly and make sure we visit on a cool day in September if Southern California gets one.

I also wasn’t sure whether this dress should be worn with my tan belt or not. When I first bought it, I thought the dress would look great with this belt, but now I don’t know.

  3. If my waist was as tiny as yours I would permanently wear a belt to show it off.

  4. I want a wide belt just like that in black SO BAD. I need to keep my eyes open better.

I have to say I kind of like it without? With really accentuates your waist which is nice, but I kind of like the block of purple/blue colours then the tights.

  5. OMG I agree - your waist is sooo super tiny and that belt really shows it off. I like it either way, but I think the belt really adds a nice touch of color. Great outfit!!

  6. I really like the belt & tights look. The no-belt look isn't bad either, maybe there's a different belt in your closet that will 'speak' to this dress ;)

  7. bummer about the apples. You could always take a trip to CT, we have lots of apples :) I am going with option 1, the belt accents your teeny waist nicely.

  8. I like it with the belt as it accentuates your figure very well! I think the whole outfit may look even better if you put on a pair of heels in the same shade as the belt. :)

Sorry to hear that the apple-picking season has ended! I've never tried it before but it sure sounds like fun!

  9. I think the dress would look great with a thinner belt, if you have one that would go? I often find those wide belts tend to cut us into all sorts of shapes. It certainly does accentuate the waist though!

You know, I don't think I've ever been apple picking! The blogosphere is convincing me that this is an essential experience I've missed out on...

  12. Hey, hey! Thanks for the little shout. I'm glad you like the red-eyed owl too. He's cute. I think that dress calls for a belt. It could also look cute with a colored ribbon for a little sash. I can't believe it's still that hot there. It was really warm today but is supposed to snow tomorrow, which I just can't imagine will actually happen. We'll see...

  14. I like it both with and without the belt. Your waist looks incredibly small with the belt though. Not that it doesn't always, but just extra small!

  15. i like it without the belt. or if you do wear a belt mayybe one a little on the skinnier side. i love that color of tights by the way.

  18. Ooh I like it belted but it definitely doesn't look too shabby not belted either. And yes! It was so hot lately but now it's actually kind of chilly and it's making me excited for real fall weather :)

  19. I love the dress pattern, I think it's better belted but I'd try a thinner belt, this one is too wide for the lenght of this dress in my opinion. Also loving the colour of your tights and the shoes!
Such a shame about apple picking, it must be real fun. I've been seeing photos of apple and pumpkin picking in every other american blog it' making me jealous.
