Thrifted Thursday No. 15

Blouse, skirt, belt, bag and shoes: thrifted

Lately when I go thrifting I just look for vintage clothing for my Etsy shop, but whenever I see a pretty blouse like this with puffed sleeves, I have to buy it for myself. I’m addicted to collecting prim and proper blouses now to go with my prim and proper skirts. This is just an H&M blouse and I wish it had a Peter Pan collar (of course). I really like the little dotted pattern on it, though.

I’m also in a great mood today because I got a large paycheck in the mail for some freelance work I did AND Audrey of homerunballerina wore a “Thrifted Thursday” outfit today, too, and gave me a shoutout. Thanks, Audrey! Hers was one of the first style blogs I ever discovered and it’s still one of my favorites. I love, love, love her use of color and ’60s influences. Oh, and she’s also a trained pastry chef and posts the most amazing recipes!

Since I got paid today, I’m going to my first estate sale tomorrow morning, bright and early at 8:00 a.m. I don’t expect to do too well since I’m totally inexperienced, but I have to start somewhere. Hopefully I’ll find some pretty things for my shop!

  1. i love the little dotted pattern as well. one of the hardest things about selling vintage is wanting to keep a lot of what you find. with jewelry, sometimes i will wear something once or twice to get it out of my system and then list it in the shop :)

  2. HOLY CRAP! If you need a partner for estate sales, let me know! I've been wanting to get into that so bad (less for clothing, more for curios). I've gone to a couple up in the Los Feliz hills, but it's never been anything really nice. I want to go to the rich areas! El oh el.

knowing what to keep and what to sell for shops is hard!

  8. Estate sales are great except when they aren't. I am much to lazy to get up early enough to go on a Saturday... ;)
P.S. I also have a small love affair with puffy sleeved blouses. This one is super cute.

  9. I love estate sales! I know I'm a bit late for today, but here are some tips I've picked up over time: Make sure you arrive early. People often start lining up for the sales, and if you're lucky, the estate sale company may let you in early. If you're after clothes, head straight upstairs to the bedroom. Some estate sale companies also pull the really nice dresses and scatter them throughout the house, but the bedroom's where most of the clothes usually are. Don't make a fuss when you find something nice! I once called over to my sister, "Amy, look at all these dresses!" and a whole bunch of not-so-nice ladies started grabbing at the pile I was looking through. (People can get real intense at estate sales, I've learned! At least here in Pennsylvania.) Also be wary of stains, tears, etc. Definitely grab whatever looks nice to you, then take them somewhere quieter to check the condition, see if stains can be removed, etc. And don't be discouraged if you go to a few "dud" estate sales. I go to quite a few, and I still end up disappointed more often than not.

Woo! (Longest comment ever?) I'm curious to hear how the estate sale this morning went. Let us know! :)

  11. I do freelance editing occasionally and it's often a few months later by the time I get paid & by then I've forgotten about the work involved and it just seems like free money...it's great :) Lovely outfit...there's a real vintage office chic feel to alot of your outfits.
