Ani Will Like It

Top: thrifted, Finesse
Skirt: Cynthia Steffe
Tights: Urban Outfitters
Necklace: belonged to my grandmother
Shoes: Target
Bag: thrifted

Ani, I know you’re obsessed with black and white, so of course I thought of you when I decided to wear this! This Cynthia Steffe skirt is a favorite of mine for sure. The quality is amazing. If I didn’t feel the need to wear more of a variety of styles for my blog, I think I would wear this skirt a lot more often. I bought it back when – okay, I’m just going to come out and say it now that the company has officially gone out of business – I worked as a copywriter for MyShape.com. We had a 30% employee discount, and I either got this on sale with the discount on top of that or bought it when they were offering an extra 40% off sale items.

It’s lame, but I bought these gray tights months ago, and this is the first time I’ve worn them. I bought them to replace another pair like them from Urban Outfitters that had gotten giant holes. The other pair were also gray, but they were a slightly different gray. Every time I looked at this new pair, I didn’t want to wear them because the gray was different and seemed kind of purplish or blueish. They just weren’t the SAME! But I finally wore them with this black and white outfit since there’s no other gray for them to clash with.

Aren’t the colors and teardrop shapes of this necklace cool? I don’t know how old this is. It belonged to my dad’s mother, and it came to me several years after she passed away. I don’t even remember who gave it to me, but I know it was hers. She was only in her 50s when she died, and I was six. I used to call her “Cookie Grandma” because she had glass jars in a line on her kitchen counter that were always filled with various types of treats, from Fruit Roll-Ups to Pixy Stix to, well, cookies.

This photo demonstrates why I’m usually smiling at least somewhat in my photos. I was trying to take a serious photo for Chictopia here, and as you can see, I can look pretty scary, like an evil child, when I don’t smile. My siblings like to tell me I look like the little girl in Orphan.

  1. You just remind me so much of a woman out of the 1920's. Your overall look is so fabulous. Thanks for commenting on my blog post. I really appreciate the support.

  2. That necklace is gorgeous! So unique, what a nice piece to have, and a great way to remember your Cookie-Grandma!
I love that skirt, it looks absolutely fantastic on you. I've been trying to figure out if I want to wear certain pieces more often, But I want to give all of my clothes a chance! Haha.
Sometimes when I do serious faces for Chictopia I look crazed too ;) Lately I've just been going with the smiles, haha! I usually end up liking the smiling ones better than the grumpy no-smile ones, and I usually take about 30 pictures! I need to with all the weird faces I end up making :P

  5. You look like a really PRETTY evil child, though. ;)

I love your necklace to bits, it kind of makes this outfit for me! The skirt and shoes are amazing too, though. I love your elegant, simple style so muuuch! And I loved your comment about all the Meyers-Briggs and personality type stuff, I find it super fascinating as well! It's almost unsettling how accurate my boyfriend's and my types are to our actual personalities.

  6. My mom and dad love that story about your siblings telling you about the Orphan resemblance! BRILLIANT film, that.
